What is a Virtualized Network Function?

A Virtualized Network Function (VNF) runs on one or several virtual machines on top of a networking infrastructure and are responsible for managing specific network functions.  This virtual infrastructure can include routers, switches, servers, cloud computing systems, and more. VNFs exist within a Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and can be managed on various telco cloud virtual machines.
