NFV: Being Open Does Not Always Mean Being Equal
With the modernization of networks accelerating heading into 2018, the promise of more open technologies and more orchestrated ecosystems has become a reality for Communications Service Providers (CSPs) who are now able to spin up, deliver, bill for and manage new services faster and more efficiently than ever.
Ribbon is an innovator, having already invested millions of dollars in transforming our own carrier-grade network infrastructure technologies, working closely with organizations including the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) , Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP), vendors and service provider ecosystems including Red Hat, Intel Network Builders, Wind River Titanium Cloud, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) OpenNFV, Canonical V-PIL and Ciena Blue Orbit, to deliver tightly integrated and differentiated end-to-end NFV solutions.
Open works when open is orchestrated, and open is differentiated when open is certified. Earlier this year, Ribbon announced it had been certified on the Red Hat OpenStack Platform, and on December 12 we will be co-hosting a webinar with Red Hat to share the software solutions some of the world’s largest tier one operators have been benefitting from as we continue to lead in supporting the NFV movement globally.
Why is the “telco cloud” important? Not only does a well-architected and secure cloud drive massive cost savings through operational efficiencies – it also is the foundation for Communications Platform-as-a-Service (CPaaS) including Unified Communications-as-a-Service (UCaaS) and Embedded Communications, which are changing how enterprises deliver improved industry-focused solutions including everything from better healthcare to more secure e-commerce, transforming cities into smart cities, and turning autonomous vehicles into communications hubs.
Ribbon is proud to be part of the Red Hat Connect for Technology Partners and Red Hat Connect for Business Partners programs, and actively engaged in their most strategic projects across multiple service providers, contributing our certified solutions which have already made a huge impact on our customers’ service agility and economics.
Ribbon’s certified VNFs include our Session Border Controller (SBC) applications; Call Session Controller (C3) VNF; Advanced Media Software (AMS) VNF for distributed Access and Interconnect SBCs, and Media Interworking & Transcoding applications including IMS Media Resource Function and IMS Media Gateway and the Converged Intelligent Messaging (CIM) VNF for Voice Mail & Messaging applications.
Across all of this, Ribbon’s VNF Manager (VFM) enables the full lifecycle management of our own and third party VNFs which have also been certified for the Red Hat OpenStack Platform.
During our December 12 webinar, we’ll share in real time with hundreds of attendees Ribbon’s differentiated Virtual Network Functions portfolio including fully virtualized, high-performance communications signaling, control and media management solutions including Session Border Controller, Advanced Media Software, Applications Server, WebRTC Gateway, Intelligent Messaging and C3 Call Session Controller solutions, as well as EMS and Network Analytics.
We’ll also highlight our market-leading VNF Management framework for full life cycle management of multiple Ribbon and third party VNFs, interworking with different network orchestrators and virtualization infrastructure managers via open APIs to ensure elastic scalability of VNF’s based on dynamic network load and/or provisioning state.
And while most of our competitors are also moving into fully virtualized solutions (because CSPs have mandated this), being open doesn’t always mean being equal!
We’ll share Ribbon’s differentiators and explain why Ribbon is helping drive modernization with:
- A wide-ranging VNF portfolio supporting full elasticity and geo distribution
- Intelligent VNF management framework and open APIs that streamline MANO interworking
- EMS and Analytics for VNF operations and KPI monitoring
- High performance and elastic media interworking and transcoding solutions
- Graceful migration path and hybrid deployment support to avoid “rip and replace”
- Flexible licensing plans to accommodate elastic services and on-demand applications
Our partner Red Hat will also be sharing how the Red Hat OpenStack Platform environment delivers high performance NFV cloud infrastructure. And how their ecosystem of trusted vendors such as Ribbon, are bringing tested, certified and trusted solutions and services that are production-ready to market.
I hope you can join us to see how this all works and contributes to the future of network infrastructure and service delivery, to ask questions, and to interact with your own community of networking planning, engineering, operations and strategy – perfect timing as we welcome the exciting new year ahead.
